Pet Insurance for my Dogs

There are many costs associated with owning a pet. Many owners wonder if pet insurance is really worth the cost.

You may ask yourself why get pet insurance and if you do how do you know whether it's worth the extra cost?

What is pet insurance?

Pet insurance is designed to cover any unexpected vet or medical expenses that may occur during your pets lifetime. In my mind, I think of it as similar to private health cover; you don't think about it until you need it.

There are limitations on what is covered and each policy is different. Still, overall the cover is there for my peace of mind. If something happens and I was to find myself with large vet bills, and I don't know how I'll pay, then this is when having pet insurance counts.

Finding the Right Pet Insurance Cover for You

Finding the right pet insurance is about knowing your pet and the possible health issues that may pop up. There will always be things that might pop up that you can't predict, but I would suggest you make sure you speak to your insurance provider about the breed of your dog/s - just in case there's anything you need to know.

For me, I just chose the highest cover for my pet insurance to make sure that it covers the most possible things. It does cost me more to have this high level of coverage, but I like the peace of mind.

You will, of course, need to consider the costs when it comes to getting pet insurance. However, if you compare multiple brands' policies, there are possible ways to save yourself money and still be covered - of course make sure you're looking at all of the elements though.

Why I got Pet Insurance

When I got my dog, I was offered a month's free pet insurance, so I thought, why not. Within the month, he had medical issues that meant I needed to fork out for vet bills that I wasn't prepared for. But because I had insurance, I could claim most of the costs back. For me, that experience was enough to decide that it was worthwhile.

Many known costs come with owning a dog like yearly vaccinations, flea, tick and worming treatments, food and toys. All these are costs you can budget for, but for me, pet insurance is there for the unexpected costs that pop up out of nowhere.
